Comfort doesn't compromise off-road abilityLast year, I had the opportunity to put a V8-powered 2007 Sport Trac through a grueling off-road frolic that challenged it with blue-sky ascents over broken shale and unrepentant boulders. I was gratefully astonished by the vehicle's overt climbing ability and its determination to maintain traction in four-wheel-drive (4WD) low range. This driver-selectable mode is activated by pushbutton. High-range 4WD and Auto 4WD are also driver-selectable by fingertip. Ford genuinely deserves a round of applause for equipping each and every 2008 Sport Trac with a full set of inflatables, including a safety canopy with roll-over sensing, along with their AdvanceTrac and Roll Stability Control program as standard equipment. | Depending on your needs, the Explorer Sport Trac may make more sense than a conventional Explorer. | Sport Trac wrappedThis is an interesting and versatile, if not somewhat unique, vehicle. It provides the interior comfort of an Explorer SUV while adding the practicality of a pickup-style cargo box. Depending on what one intends to haul, such as outboard motors or bulky cargo, the Explorer Sport Trac may make more sense than a conventional Explorer. Potentially limiting its usefulness though is a somewhat diminutive box size. However, a flip-out box extender is available. Photo Credit : Rob Rothwell
