2008 Buick Enclave CXL AWD Review

14 mars 2008

par Luc Gagné , Auto123.com

Accelerations and passing maneuvers are completed with undeniable smoothness thanks to a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual mode that sends power to the driving wheels (be it the front ones, or all four when you select AWD).

The wide C-pillars impede rear three-quarter visibility.

Cozy environment
The ultra-rigid chassis keeps body noise to a minimum. GM's exclusive QuietTuning technology provides occupants with a very cozy, almost Lexus-like environment.

While braking performance is nicely progressive, the power steering raises some concerns. For instance, precision leaves a lot to be desired on tortuous roads. Moreover, it does not provide satisfying feedback from the road.

But I'm willing to bet it won't discourage typical Enclave buyers. For those people, the pride of being seen behind the wheel of such a head-turning vehicle is much more important. To tell you the truth, I myself was caught at this game throughout the testing period...

Seductive lines, both inside and out
Roomy, versatile, quiet interior
Potent engine
Progressive brakes

Second row is decent at best
Abundance of faux wood inserts on the dashboard

Mediocre rearward visibility
Lack of steering precision and feedback
Significant fuel consumption
