2008 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ Review

Flexibility and control
The Malibu LTZ relies on the most powerful engine in the lineup, a 252-hp V6. Unfortunately, all this power is overenthusiastically sent to the front wheels, generating noticeable torque steer which you can feel through the steering wheel. Under hard acceleration, the car becomes relatively hard to maintain in a straight line, especially during passing maneuvers.

On the plus side, the 6-speed automatic transmission proves to be a competent performer and even allows some flexibility when you decide to change gears manually by using the paddle shifters on the steering wheel. It sure doesn't feel like a manual transmission, but at least you get some kick out of it.

The Malibu LTZ relies on the most powerful engine in the lineup, a 252-hp V6.

The steering, meanwhile, is quite firm, allowing a certain level of excitement in terms of handling.

Despite all that power and the weight of the vehicle, fuel economy remains enviable: 11 L/100 km. That's slightly better than what the average midsize sedan achieves.

I'm still not sure if I would have given it the title of 2008 Car of the Year, but the Chevrolet Malibu provides a clear evidence that GM is on the right track with regard to development and driving dynamics.
