2008 smart : models and prices

22 novembre 2007

par Amyot Bachand , Auto123.com

Pricing
The Pure coupe starts at $14,990 and, as mentioned earlier, the Passion coupe retails for $18,250. Finally, the Passion cabriolet carries a sticker price of $21,250. Taxes, freight and delivery charges are obviously not included.

But let's not forget about the federal rebates for highly fuel-efficient vehicles (6 L/100 km or less). If the program carries into the 2008 model year, the smart will be eligible to a $2,000 reduction. We'll have to wait and see. If that's the case, the smarts will become attractive, competitively-priced little cars with great value. You could purchase a generously-equipped Passion coupe for just $16,250.

What about the U.S. models?
Given our strong Canadian dollar, consumers will be tempted to compare with U.S. prices. As you may have heard, the brand is making its American debut for 2008. However, it appears that the base U.S. model will be even more basic (no power windows) to target the delivery car market. It will retail for $US12,000, which represents less value if you take into account the standard features of the Canadian Pure model at $12,990 (with the $2,000 rebate). We should point out that our smarts get upgraded bumpers, more features and an additional anti-corrosion treatment. So, in short, the price difference south of the border is not worth it when you factor in the Canadian government's rebate.
