There was not one happy person after the USGP came to a close on Sunday
afternoonsource: GP2005.comApart from maybe the Jordan drivers who secured their own piece of F1
history as a result of the Michelin boycott at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
and as Sir Jackie Stewart explained in the Telegraph just hours after the 'race'
had finished, there are no winners in this mess, just losers, and lots of
them. "Any sympathy towards Formula One in this country will have gone
after this. There will be a lot of ramifications. I can see what has happened
here today having a domino affect on F1 in America and perhaps in other
countries, too," he said. "The contract in the United States is up next
year. Whether the people here will want to renew it now is another thing. There
are not many promoters in this country who will want to take on the
responsibility of hosting an F1 GP, given the difficult financial situation
surrounding the sport at this time." The seven Michelin teams as well
as two of the Bridgestone runners, were asking for a temporary chicane to be put
in place at the trouble spot so that they could all safely compete and as the
disappointed three time world champion went on to explain, any form of crisis
management requires a compromise and as such it is his belief that the USGP
should have taken place in the proper way after they made allowances for the
chicane as requested.
