Max Mosley has been quoted as revealing.
After the stalemate was not broken in the seven hours of meetings on Friday, FOTA chairman Luca di Montezemolo said the parties were due to get together again in Monaco.
But Mosley is quoted as saying by Germany's
Auto Motor und Sport: "There will be no further meetings here in Monte Carlo."
And while no agreement between the rebel teams and Max Mosley was finalised so far, parties including the FIA president, Luca di Montezemolo and Nick Fry have commented that common ground is being found.
"At this point I have to say I am more optimistic. We've gone forwards, not backwards," Ross Brawn said in Monte Carlo.
Another growing feeling, however, is that while the budget cap stalemate may not be insurmountable, it is actually Mosley's governance style that is causing the most unhappiness.
Meanwhile, the big paddock rumour at present is that Toyota is not taking its hard-line stance against the budget cap for the same reasons as Ferrari.
It is suggested that the carmaker has already decided to follow its Japanese rival Honda
out of the sport, and has simply eyed a good excuse to justify it.
