Using an updated version of the RX-8's hydrogen/petrol Renesis rotary engine, Mazda has created the Mazda5 hybrid. This 5 is also equipped with a dual-fuel system that can run on both hydrogen and conventional fuel. Mazda also showcases a new start-stop system that stops the engine when it falls to idle. It automatically restarts when required. This revised system has better control over piston positioning for more precise restarting with its integrated starter-generator. The further developed rotary engine now puts out 210 hp whereas the hydrogen alternative produces 109 hp.
