The mid-size sedan segment is the most competitive on the market, and Mazda is going to war with a brand-new 6.
The
2009 Mazda6 will initially be offered in four-door configuration only, and will have a choice of two engines. A 2.5-liter 4-cylinder can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic, while the 3.7-liter V6 borrowed from the CX-9 is available with a 6-speed automatic.
Just like with the old model, the new one will offer two trim levels; both engines can be ordered in GS or
GT trims. Mazda promises a car that's as sporty as the previous one, but more refined and quieter.
The North-American Mazda6 is different from the overseas one that's currently on sale. To better suit the consumer's needs in America, the sedan that will be offered here is bigger, and will still be assembled in Michigan.
On sale at in late summer 2008, more information and pricing will be available at a later date.
