Nico Rosberg, the son of former World Champion Keke Rosberg, made his
official debut as a Williams team test driver at Silverstone on Wednesday, 23
years after his father clinched the world title for the same team.
Rosberg, 19, joined Williams race driver Mark Webber in the test with the
Australian focussing on set-ups and tyre testing ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix
next week in Barcelona.
The teenager familiarized himself with the Williams BMW FW27 in addition to
evaluating set-ups and carrying out a number of simulated pit-stops.
Webber completed 101 laps, posting a best time of 1:20.121 minutes, while
Rosberg completed 57 laps on his way to setting a best time of 1:21.843.
"On the second day at Silverstone circuit, Mark Webber completed just over
one hundred laps while carrying out a range of tyre tests in preparation for the
Spanish GP next weekend," said Tim Newton, the test team manager at Williams.
"Nico Rosberg, the teams new second test driver, made a solid debut,
registering nearly 300 kilometres. As he hasn't driven the FW27 before, Nico
spent the session acclimatising himself and carrying out systems checks."
