Subaru announces pricing for PZEV models

24 avril 2008

par Auto123.com

PZEV stands for Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle, and it's a designation reserved for some of the cleanest cars on the road. PZEV's meet ultra-stringent emissions standards while eliminating evaporative emissions from the fuel system as well.

They're viable choices for owners looking to minimize the impact of car ownership- and Subaru's Legacy and Outback models are available in PZEV variants for 2009 at no additional charge. Legacy 2.5i PZEV starts at $28,195, while the Outback PZEV, based on the Outback Touring model, retails for $34,895.

"Subaru is delighted to offer Canadians these vehicles, which meet the strict emissions standards set by the California Air Resources Board and eliminate fuel-system evaporative emissions," said Katsuhiro Yokoyama, president and CEO of Subaru Canada. Compared to an average new vehicle, Subaru PZEV vehicles have 90 percent cleaner emissions and may even be cleaner than hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles. In addition, Subaru PZEV vehicles achieve such a complete fuel burn that in very smoggy urban areas, the exhaust out of the tailpipe can actually be cleaner than the air outside."

The PZEV models feature the same boxer engine as other Subaru's, albeit with a slight horsepower reduction and modified emissions system.
