2005 Chrysler 300 Series Road Test

3-1-2004

With that last point in mind the 300 comes very well equipped, with dual front multistage airbags standard and optional side-curtain airbags front and rear. Seatbelt pretensioners tug down, tightening the seatbelts

when extreme brake force is recognized by the car's sensors, preparing for the worst. The front passenger seat includes an airbag sensor that shuts off the system if small adults or children are seated. No matter the size of child or adult there's plenty of room in back. I was able to stretch out and while away an hour or so while my co-driver put the pedal to the metal, thoroughly comfortable even when he attacked the curves, even more aggressively than me. The rear seats offer good support for upper back and lumbar, and are contoured in the outside positions to keep backside and derriere effectively planted.

I would have liked more side bolster support for the front seats mind you, finding the car's high level of tire adhesion more than the slippery leather seats could handle. Of course I appreciate that the majority of Chrysler 300 drivers won't be running the slalom everyday on the way to the office, which makes the car's less bolstered, more easily accessible buckets an intelligent choice.

Now that we're talking about seats I had no trouble getting comfortable. The 300 offers a variety of power actuated adjustments to optimize a driver's position, while the tilt and telescoping steering wheel is power adjustable. I didn't enjoy the front passenger seat quite as much however, as Chrysler declined to offer a power recline feature even in top trim levels. I guess that's one of the prices paid for the car's stellar price point.
