2003 Infiniti FX35 & FX45 Road Test

2-11-2003

by Trevor Hofmann , Canadian Auto Press

At top center a large 178 mm (7.0 in) LCD display screen gives access to the optional navigation system featuring Infiniti's exclusive landscape view, available as part of the FX35's Touring Package and FX45's High Tech Package - more on these in a minute. The screen also doubles as a close circuit video monitor for the rear mounted reverse camera, one of the best safety features of the year. It doesn't take the place of side and rearview mirrors but rather enhances rearward vision in the critical blind spot right behind the vehicle, where small children could otherwise become victims of the simple act of reversing out a driveway.

Another unique feature is Infiniti's intelligent key system, also part of the previously mentioned packages. Intelligent key allows the driver to keep a tiny remote in a pocket or purse, that lets the car know when it's being approached. The SUV readies itself with the appropriate driver's settings, allows entry at the touch of a tiny rubber button on the door handle and then lets the driver start it up all without the necessity of a key - cool. Remote keyless entry comes standard if the packages aren't ordered.
