2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor Limited Road Test

4-8-2004

by Alexandra Straub , Canadian Auto Press

Visibility in the Endeavor is quite good too, except out the rear. I found backing up and parallel parking a bit difficult, but nothing that I couldn't manage once I got used to using the mirrors. The dash is surprisingly low, on the other hand, allowing an optimal forward visual range, while a fairly low window height makes seeing out the side windows better than average.

What bothers me? I was not thrilled with the placement of the emergency brake. I prefer the hand brake position next to the seat rather than to the left of the brake pedal. It's just a preference of mine, albeit I can appreciate that in a vehicle of the Endeavor's size and weight a hand brake can be a bit unwieldy for some. The 4-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel is also positioned on a strange angle which was not suited to my physique, but nevertheless it nicely detailed.

When it comes down to a final analysis, the Endeavor has many more pros than cons. It's a performance-oriented vehicle that really lives up to the sport in SUV. In the end I'm glad that my Mitsubishi vocabulary has been broadened thanks to this new sport ute. Now, if only the sporty brand would bring the legendary Lancer Evolution to Canada, all would be right in the universe.
