2004 Nissan Titan Quick Drive

12-4-2003

by Joseph Cabadas , Canadian Auto Press

With the crew cab, you can order a standard bench seat in front or captain's chairs (the front passenger chair would fold flat to provide a work surface, which is a first in the full-size pickup class). The test drive model had captain's chairs and a large center console
The interior of the Nissan Titan is far beyond bare bones. The company says it designed the inside to feel big and open with door storage bins, rear seat bottle holders, and grocery hooks on the bottom of the seat cushions. with pockets to hold a cell phone and a lot of other stuff, although one of the models inside the Stroh Riverplace office building had a bench seat where the center section could fold down and became a flat writing surface. The back of this section could open up into an enormous storage bin. This feature might work better, however, if the seat back could open into a writing tray for the rear seat passengers if someone was sitting up front in the center seat.

Another Nissan bragging right in the "bigger is better" category is that with the optional DVD-based navigation system, you get a 6.4-inch color monitor in the center console. Apparently this monitor is the largest available and a first this size for a truck, but I can't comment on how good it is as it wasn't featured on the test drive models.

The large sized door handles, knobs and steering wheel are designed to work when the driver is wearing work gloves. Obviously Nissan was paying attention to the truck interiors that GM, Ford and Dodge have refined over the years.

And there are ample door storage bins, cup holders and large arm rests and you can order the optional overhead console with DVD entertainment system, 7-inch monitor and a 10-speaker Rockford Fosgate sound system. Ford's new F-150, however, provides much more flexibility for drivers to swap out and change its overhead console with its Johnson Control's RailPort overhead storage system.

The king cab Titan has many of the same features as the Crew Cab, along with flip up 60/40 rear seats for extra storage.
