2009 Dodge Ram 4x4 Crew Cab Laramie Review

2-25-2009

by Justin Pritchard , Auto123.com

A five-speed automatic was included, as well as an electronic four wheel drive system with both low-range and automatic settings. No issues with traction, even in deep slush or snow.

With the HEMI on duty, throttle response is excellent. Acceleration is generous- indeed almost excessive- when the engine is pushed, and sound effects are typically lovely too. Piles of power are available for passing, merging and various forms juvenile showboating as needed.

Ram's steering wheel houses controls for the stereo and in-cluster computer readouts.

Nailing the pickup cabin
It's all grown up inside though, and Ram features a huge selection storage solutions alongside features once reserved solely for high-tech luxury cars. A big step-in is required to access the cabin, though each of the Crew Cab's five seats offers generous room.

Audio and communications are handled by a central control screen with various menus to handle phone calls, satellite radio, and even recording of CD's to the built-in hard drive. The system is mainly simple to use- though the displays within are showing their age. You'll likely find the stereo sound quality better in the F150, too.

Ram's steering wheel houses controls for the stereo and in-cluster computer readouts, and is also trimmed in leather and heated. A heated steering wheel is a feature you don't know you need until you've tried it.
Seats are heated, chilled and power adjustable, too- and materials selection and build quality are above and beyond what's available elsewhere in a large truck. Job well done in this department, Dodge.

Storage bins with washable liners are built into the Ram's floor, and the optional 'Ram-Box' storage system allows owners to store items in the box sides within a lockable compartment that's drainable and illuminated.

If the pre-weekend forecast calls for snow, leave the Ram Box doors open overnight to fill up, then take advantage of fuss-free chilling of your favorite cottage beverage.
