2009 Dodge Ram 4x4 Crew Cab Laramie Review

2-25-2009

by Justin Pritchard , Auto123.com

Rammin' along
On the road, Ram's new coil-shock rear suspension works to deliver a notably smooth and car-like ride alongside comfortable towing of up to 8,350 pounds. Much of the typical pickup-truck suspension jiggle is absorbed by the suspension before making it to the cabin, so the ride is less 'pickup' and more 'crossover SUV'.

The optional 'Ram-Box' storage system allows owners to store items in the box sides.

Steering is sporty but somewhat vague and disconnected, and the F150 offers a more planted and heavy highway feel. Comparing dynamics, Ram wins hands down in the braking department - offering very precise and powerful braking action compared to the spongy, weaker feel you'll find in the F150.

The one for you?
After a five-day test, I found myself wishing for easier entry and exit from the cabin, a more precise steering feel, and a few more miles per gallon.

Ultimately though, the Dodge team has outdone themselves. This is a truck with strengths that far outweigh its weaknesses, and Ram's looks, powertrain and flawless interior execution will hook shoppers on the latest revision.
