NASCAR: Joey Logano sanctioned

1-27-2009

by Éric Descarries

What went pretty unnoticed was a second victory for Matt Kobyluck (Chevy No 40) who won the NASCAR All-Star Showdown held at the Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, California on Saturday evening. NASCAR rising star Joey Logano (Camry No 08) passed the finish line first but was immediately penalized.

At the last turn of the last lap, Logano did a « slide job », trying to pass leader Peyton Sellers. The youngster actually slid into Sellers' No 83 Chevy, sending him into the wall.

For once, NASCAR made a very direct decision, blaming Logano for his « unsportsman » driving and placed him at the end of the pack. Sellers was credited the 13th place at the finish. But since the race was over, Logano ended up 40th!

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion Scott Steckley (Chevy No 22) was invited to the race but, unfortunately, he got caught up in an accident early in the race (lap 8) and finished 38th.
