GM has recently been offering some fairly advanced audio-video equipment in their SUV, minivan and even some car lines, a trend that continues in the Malibu MAXX. Its 6-speaker audio system featuring an ICDX tuner, dash-mounted 6-disc CD changer, XM Satellite Radio and automatic volume and tone controls, no doubt delivers the goods young adults enjoy, while its optional rear DVD entertainment system keeps the kids in line. The 178 mm (7 in) flip-up monitor is ingeniously integrated into the rear console, and includes two sets of infrared headphones, video game inputs, remote control and independent audio selection.
Also included, but up front on the dash, is a driver information center (DIC) that integrates into the audio system's display. It allows for personalization of warning messages, including such detailed 'emergencies' as low key-fob battery life - hardly perilously threatening but definitely handy. In contrast it also provides notice of icy road conditions plus engine oil change recommendation information, just three messages among a total of fifteen. Optional equipment includes XM satellite radio, OnStar communication and most important in Canada, heated front seats.
